Khloe – at this stage the ONLY expectant Kardashian – shared more of her pregnancy journey last week, chatting to Ross King about how the baby-growing adventure feels for her.

Controlling the narrative

The Kardashian-Jenner women – Kylie, Kim and Khloe – have approached their recent pregnancies with varying degrees of secrecy. Kylie wanted complete privacy during her pregnancy with newborn Stormi, Kim spoke about her gestational carrier as the pregnancy progressed, eventually welcoming now one-month-old Chicago, and Khloe announced her pregnancy when she was six months in.

This more private approach might seem odd for a family who have made their name broadcasting some pretty intimate details about their life, but perhaps signals a more cautious strategy when it comes to exposing their lives and kids to the world.

Following Kim’s Paris robbery, Kanye’s breakdown, Scott Disick’s addiction battles and Kendall Jenner’s Pepsi scandal, it’s also likely that they are managing potential challenges to their mental health much more carefully too. Intrusive scrutiny of their pregnancies would fall into that category.

Tricky first trimester

Khloe says she initially kept things quiet during the first trimester, under doctor’s advisement, but then extended this baby news embargo a little longer.

“At first, it’s not safe to say anything. And, the doctor was, like, ‘I would just want to wait for you.’ So, I was listening to doctor’s orders. And then people, you know, just become so obsessed. And, I’m like, ‘Trust me. You guys are all going to know eventually!’ I’m just waiting until it’s the right time.”

Khloe noted these first weeks and months were physically the trickiest time, and while she seemed glad to be out of the spotlight she said it came with its own frustrations.

Most mums will know that during the first trimester pregnancy brings bone-aching exhaustion and never-before-known nausea. Women are told to keep their condition on the down-low during this riskiest trimester, and yet they’re often feeling the worst and most in need of sympathy. Poor mums!

“You’re the most sick, and no one knows you’re pregnant”

Khloe relates, noting that for the most part her pregnancy has been a dream, but those early months were, indeed, a bit of a trial.

“Honestly, I feel so lucky. I hear horror stories and mine right now has been really easy. The very beginning is challenging, ’cause you feel so out of place. You know, I’ve never experienced this before,” Khloe said.

“I think you’re the most sick, and no one knows you’re pregnant. So, I think the beginning is the most challenging.”

Surprise!!

Khloe said that after lots of dramas in her life, and some advice that she might find having a baby to be a challenge, this much-wanted pregnancy with basketball star Tristan Thompson took her by surprise.

“When I got pregnant, I was just so surprised. ‘Cause you keep getting told — you know when you hear all these things about yourself, you just start believing them. And, I was just in shock. I think, as much as everybody else was,” Khloe recalls. She said she was worried about going public with her baby news, but it turned out to be a blessing, with fans super supportive and very excited for her and Tristan.

“I was so nervous, for some reason, to announce that I was pregnant. I just … had these nerves. Having everyone’s positive and loving support is so great.”
