Content note: This post contains discussion about miscarriage –  The Love What Matters site has just shared the uplifting story of a much-wanted rainbow baby’s arrival, but it’s the newborn’s emotional 8-year-old sister that has everyone reaching for the tissues.

A series of losses

Arizona mum Kelsey Davis shared her birth video with the popular Facebook page, explaining the story behind the clip. When her daughter Brooke was three years old her excitement turned to heartbreak when, after excitedly announcing she was going to be a big sister, her mum lost the baby everyone was so looking forward to.

“Brooke was absolutely heartbroken,” Kelsey explained to Love What Matters. “She cried so hard and didn’t understand why. As her mum, I told her that God decided to keep the baby with him and that the baby was too precious for earth.”

Sadly, two further miscarriages followed, so when Kelsey fell pregnant again, Brooke was determined not to miss a minute and immersed herself fully.

“We explained the process, how things work, where babies come from and that I would be in some pain but that it’s all normal,” Kelsey said. “She decided to stay in the room with us while her sister Ellie was born on January 3, 2016. Their bond as sisters was immediately one of a kind!”

Family birth

When Kelsey fell pregnant again, this time with daughter Summer, Brooke played a big role once again. She helped her mum through a gruelling 36 hour labour and became super emotional when the little girl finally made her appearance.

“I prepped Brooke by explaining the positioning, where she could place her hands, that the baby will be slippery and that there will be a lot of blood, but that it is all normal.”

When baby Summer was about to crown, Brooke was down the business end, ready to welcome her sister.

“Brooke prepared by putting her hands with her dads to help catch her newest baby sister, and about one minute after her head came out, so did her sweet little body. Brooke melted!”

“She’s just so perfect”

Brooke also helped to cut the umbilical cord after “catching” the baby with her dad.

“After they placed Summer on my chest, I looked over to see Brooke just crying! I asked her if she was okay and she stumbled through tears when she said, ‘Yes! She’s just so perfect!’ And she was — this all was. Our family was right where we all should have been.”

Kelsey says Brooke is planning on becoming a midwife now, and that the whole experience has been a positive and bonding one for their whole gang.

(Brooke also takes the crown for sweetest kid we’ve seen in forever.)

"You can see the overwhelming love in her face. She touched the baby’s head as she was crowning and giggled." (new video)#LoveWhatMatters
