Oompa loompa doopa-de-doo. We’ve got a perfect party for you. Oompa loompa doopa-dee-dee. Come, take a peek, you’re sure to agree!

Chocoholics, prepare to go all wobbly at the knees as we take you inside Laila’s scrumdiddlyumptious seventh birthday, with its marvellous Willy Wonka theme. Super sweet in more ways than one, the purple-hued sweets table at this Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-inspired birthday just about knocked our socks off!

Of course, we’re sure you won‘t be at all surprised to learn that the amazingly creative momma behind this sugar-laden shindig is the same parent who created the stunning rainbow celebration that is still officially our most popular party post to date. Simone, take a bow!

But back to all things Wonka. Eldest daughter Laila requested the party after becoming smitten with the original Roald Dahl book and Simone, who freely admits to an overwhelming weakness for chocolate, was happy to oblige.  Simone designed and made the glorious invites and all the other party stationery herself, but you might be happy to know you can buy the lot at her online partyware store, Invite Me.

She pre-warned parents to expect a good old-fashioned sugar hit for the kids – and then wowed them all in ways that would make Willy Wonka himself proud. There’s so many little touches here that work together to amaze – the darling goose with its golden chocolate eggs, the little pots of chocolate mouse, the whipple scrumptious fudgemallow delight cake pops, more chocolate in the cupcakes – all held together in true gobstopping fashion with that decadent chocolate fountain centerpiece.

The sweetness overload continued with platters of exquisitely wrapped Wonka bars and lolly jars filled to bursting with marshmallows, bubble gum and all manner of other candy treats, with a smattering of boiled lollies scattered over the table for good measure. There’s so much to love here but one of our favourite touches has to be those bobble-headed versions of Burton’s Oompa Loompas standing guard in front of the galley-shaped birthday cake, made with much aplomb by Cakes Of Our Lives. Simone found the figures on Ebay.

(Oh, and because we know you’re going to ask, that scene-stealing canopy o’er the sweets table was borrowed from Melbourne-based Cakes & Biscuits by Lisa.)

Believe it or not, it wasn’t all sugar. If you look very closely at the party table, you’ll see two pretty bowls of strawberries and bottles labelled “fizzy lifting drink” in honour of the original Gene Wilder flick but containing – of all things – milk! (To steal a line from Simone, what else should one have with chocolate’.)

We just have to mention one of the Wonka-themed games that over-the-moon birthday girl Laila (pictured above) and her guests played. Simone roped in her husband to help blow up a backyard’s-worth of balloons, each with a small chocolate egg hidden inside. The seventeen guests were invited to break the balloons any way they could, triggering much mayhem, squeals and giggles of delight. All the eggs were labeled “bad egg” bar one, which carried a “good egg” tag, and the person who found this was given a copy of Dahl’s book.
