Babyologists, when we announced we were looking for baby showers to feature in our popular party section, we were swamped! It’s been so hard choosing which one of your parties to feature first from all the stunning soirees, but in the end we couldn’t go past this delightful rocking horse themed baby shower.

Pure elegance, this stunning shower to welcome baby Conolly to the world is also a giddy celebration of Queensland couple Brenden and Jo’s sixteen year journey to parenthood. It’s a story that’s as heartwarming as these photos are beautiful.

Jo tells us her husband, overcome with joy and excitement after their fifth IVF attempt ended with a baby on board, instructed her friends to spoil her with the best baby shower they could muster and didn’t even blink at the expense! Now that’s a husband worth having, in my book!

The couple don’t yet know the gender of their child, deciding to wait until the moment of birth to discover if they’ll be sharing their lives with a precious son or daughter. That ruled out a typical pink or blue themed shower. Jo looked and looked for inspiration online before finding it closer to home – in the baby book she’d found at Kikki K, with its sweet and perfectly unisex rocking horse motif and red and white colour scheme.

That settled, her friends went to work on the details. The shower was held at a French restaurant, Brisbane’s popular Sprout Café, chosen as much for its wonderful setting and delicious food as for the fact that it was only a short waddle away from home for a very heavily pregnant Jo!

One of her best friends, Sarah, asked Brisbane-based My Little Teapot to create a dessert table to die for. And didn’t they achieve that design brief! The rocking horse biscuits, cake pops and prettily boxed cupcake favours came from cakemaker Camille at Lavish Occassions. Jo didn’t see any of these stunning details until she arrived at her shower, and was quite understandably blown away by everyone’s efforts on her behalf.

Chef Olivier created a mouth-watering French-Asian fusion menu to suit the guest of honour (Jo tells us it’s no mean feat to find food to make a pregnant vegetarian happy!), with shitake rice paper rolls, gyoza and futomaki among the delicacies.

It was all set off to perfection by stationery custom-designed to match the red and white colour scheme at Isla Bird, with menu cards, favour tags and a gorgeous invitation.
