Everybody’s favourite celebrity chef spilled the beans on parenting little kids, raising teens and his hopes for his family, in a recent interview with Woman Magazine.
Jamie’s obviously chuffed to have such a gorgeous and clever brood of kids, and it’s pretty lovely to hear him chat about how much they mean to him.
Jamie (41) and wife Jools (42) are parents to Poppy (14), Daisy (13), Petal (7), Buddy (6), and baby River (4 months).
“Even with Buddy, Poppy and Daisy were incredible adult figures. Sometimes I think they’re better parents than I am,” The Sun reported.
In it together
Poppy and Daisy do seem to be super capable kids, scrubbing in on baby River’s birth, helping to catch the baby and also cutting the umbilical cord.
Jamie says it was a really special moment for the family.
“Often mums have to work hard for teenage girls and I just thought it was an amazing moment to respect your mum for being pretty damn incredible. It was just magic.”
Jamie admits that he’s learning on his feet when it comes to parenting teenagers, having had much more experience in the preschool trenches than the wilds of adolescence.
“I wouldn’t say I’m a natural parent of teenagers, but I am picking it up,” the dad of five admits.
“I’m definitely good at the toddler bit and the baby bit, but you know, you’re just trying to duck and dive and learn what they need and what they do and don’t like from parents,” Jamie explains.
The little things
Jamie says he’s muddling through and enjoying his kids, and that he and Jools really want the simplest things for their family, despite his global success.
“I think Jools and I are quite normal and we want the kids to be kind and nice people.”
“She’s a great mum and I try to do the bit that dads do too, which is a hard one to navigate, but they like me around.”
“Normally celeb kids can be a little bit up and down so I’m trying to keep them grounded and normal and give them experiences that make them nice people.”
We certainly can’t get enough of the sweet sibling photos the couple share via Instagram.
