Adorable Hollywood couple Anna Faris and Chris Pratt announced their separation – after 8 years of marriage – yesterday, and fans are bereft, wondering if they even believe in love anymore.

The pair issued matching statements via social media, expressing their sadness and calling for privacy.
“We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed” the couple wrote.
This sparked yelps of “Why? Why? WHY?!” from fans who were also disappointed and indeed very invested in their relationship. Some vengefully looked for someone to blame.
Names of potential third parties who may have triggered the split, mentions of previous bumps in the (relationship) road and general hand-wringing then ensued.
It’s all a bit fraught and charged really. Those of us who have been around the block a few times know that there are three sides to every break-up – Person One’s view, Person Two’s view and what really happened. That third-party finger pointing doesn’t help anyone, really.
“When we first started dating, you know, how you do that thing where you pretend that you’re somebody different because you’re crushing hard, so of course I was like, ‘I would love to go hunting with you someday,’” Anna told Fox News as recently as January. “And now that we’ve been married for a while I’m like ‘we’re good.'”
“We tend to put a man’s needs first or sort of identify ourselves through our relationship more than men do sometimes,” she expanded.
“I think that I really appreciate that idea, you know what make sure that you find a partner who really, really loves you and respects you and cares for you, and I feel like Chris is all those things, but it just took a minute.”

This separation is obviously very upsetting for Anna and Chris, but it’s plain they’ve been working hard to keep it together under challenging circumstances.
Obviously quite the high profile couple, the pair had a ring of authenticity about them that fans particularly related to. Perhaps that’s why there’s been a disproportionate outpouring of grief:
“It breaks my heart that this is happening…. i hope that you guys can work things out.”
“I can’t take this.”
“Hoping you both can find that love again. You guys are such a beautiful couple it’s just shocking to learn you are separating.”
“Fight for @annafaris Don’t let your wife walk away!! You two belong together!!
“This breaks my heart. Please don’t move on to other people until you know it’s definitely over. You can work through anything.”
Chris and Anna met on the set of Take Me Home Tonight back in 2007. Anna was married at the time, so the relationship was apparently platonic at first, but then played out like a 90s rom com.
Chris told Esquire Magazine that because Anna was married, he didn’t even bother trying to impress her, though perhaps some warning bells might have been ringing back then?
“When Faris came over to his apartment, he left porn magazines out. She didn’t mind. He detailed sexual encounters he had recently had as a single man in Los Angeles. She was into it. Into it into it? Into it into it,” Esquire said in their 2014 profile of Chris.
When Anna’s first marriage broke down, she and Chris started dating. They were quickly engaged, then married and had son Jack – who was born prematurely – in 2012. Five years later, while the couple had hoped to have more kids, things have drastically changed course.
While things are obviously fraught personally, Chris and Anna have both gone from strength to strength, professionally, at least.
Chris has catapulted from dad bod to action hero, the Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic Park movies cementing his success. Anna’s moved on from the Scary Movie horror spoof franchise to her current role in the comedy series Mom on CBS and is one of Hollywood’s most sought-after comedic talents.
A big Mother's Day kiss and hug across the pond to my darling wife @annafaris and our sweet boy. I miss you both so much. I love you. Due to forced perspective in this picture Jack looks much bigger than Anna. How beautiful are they!? And the azaleas too! Richmond Park in full bloom. #happymothersday
We were very sorry to hear their sad news and hope everyone is taking the time they need to find their way through what must be a super tough time.
