Quinny Longboard Stroller turns the stroller into a skateboarding adventure

When my brother bought his five-year-old son a skateboard, I knew he was really buying it for himself. He did a fair bit of skateboarding when we were teenagers, but the late-thirties/early-forties body doesn’t take so well to skateboarding accidents and so the new skateboard came with some unexpected bumps and bruises before it was handed over. For all those parents wanting to relive their skateboarding glory days, Quinny has just thing for you.

The Longboard Stroller is a collaboration between Quinny, the masters of the compact urban stroller, and Studio Peter Van Riet. It’s essentially a pram/skateboard hybrid giving modern urban parents the freedom to move in a different way. And let’s be frank, a much cooler way.

For the time being, overlook details such as brakes, helmets and hills and enjoy the fact that Quinny are testing all sorts of ways to make mobility fun (for parents and kids). The Longboard Stroller is still in development stage (the videos below show that the ‘development stage’ is a blast) but keep an eye on the Longboard Stroller blog for updates on project progress – you might be rolling soon.

  2. Oh gosh, pretty cool even though a bit scary! Maybe a roll cage needed to protect bubs? Love the concept though, so original and would be good for weight loss.

  3. This is nuts. I’ve ridden a skateboard many times when I was young and the amount of time I’ve hit a gap in the footpath and come off is countless, I’ve even broken my collarbone doing this. Placing a kid in the mix then going at speed is asking for trouble. + 1 on a roll cage.

  4. I lived, breathed, raced and designed longboards (e.g. http://www.skateboardexpress.com.au/honey-badger-longboard.html) until I broke both legs and decided to quit. I’m telling you this has to be one of the worst ideas I’ve seen. Most people riding these will be unstable kooks. Foot braking can be sketchy at the best of times, let alone with a big unstable mass on the front. Hit the slightest incline on this and it’s a disaster waiting to happen. I’ve seen my fair share of boards roll under cars or slam into gutters or walls. I wouldn’t be stupid enough to strap my kid onto the front of one.

  5. OMG, I love the idea! I want one s badly :). Long boarding is great and safe if you know what you’re doing and got the right paths for it. Any test drives needed? I’m in lol!

  7. I’ve been boarding for ages and when my daughter was born that all seemed to come to an end but even she is trying to get into it and before she is even 2 years old. She pulls out my deck almost daily for a roll through the house. I’ve gotten so tired of her bulky stroller, so this will get us both out and about more. Let me know when I can get one, preferably asap!
