Another new pram to hit the market is the Peg Perego Skate. Already winning awards in Europe, the sleek Italian design and engineering make this an easy one to drool over. What differentiates it from many on the market is the convertible carriage – it goes from being a flat fully reclined super cosy bassinet to a fully adjustable seat – a very slick design feature that will win over many.
As expected, it also comes with all the bells and whistles such as aluminium chassis, reversible seat and height adjustable telescopic handles. The pram also collapses with the seat attach making it easy when transporting from ground to car. A great bumper bar handle can be completely taken off or simply opened on one side using a clip system. In addition, you also have the option of using a compatible Peg Perego car seat when purchasing the adaptors. All that, and it comes in 5 different colourways - oh and a really funky flat expandable basket!
Weighing in at 15.3kg it’s certainly not the lightest of prams, but with this many features and unique design, you will really have to weigh (no pun intended I promise!) up the benefits. If you could stretch your imagination to James Bond settling down with a baby in tow, I think this is the pram he would have – the design is just that slick! Check out the website to see a video demo on how it all works.
Not available until early next year, we will keep you posted as to Australian stockists.
If you cringe at the thought of carrying around a hideously large unattractive nappy bag and want to continue looking as stylish as you did sans babe, then join the ranks of Angelina & Brad, and grab yourself one of the super cool bags in the Storksak range.
Not only do these bags look great from the outside – I’m taken with the Emily tote in pewter – metallics are out in force this season – they are highly functional on the inside with thermo insulated pockets to keep bottles warm, change mat, key holder, detachable inner bag, mobile phone holder, elasticised pockets – I don’t think you could ask for more!
If you are looking for something more unisex, the ‘Jamie’ design is a stylish leather bag, recently seen on the shoulders of both Matt Damon and Brad. With similar compartments inside, it is also sized to fit most laptops. All bags have wipe clean lining which is a must with leaks and spills commonplace and there is a great range of styles available.
Available in Australia through The Rocking Horse, prices start at $139.
The challenges of transporting baby are many in this complicated world
of planes, trains and automobiles. Some days
it's all I can do to think my way through the carloads of baby
paraphernalia we'll need just to get through just the weekend. Until
now there's
been an opportunity in the market for an all-in one system, one that
caters for infant transportation on foot, in car, and that will
also see a child through the toddler years.
The
Orbit System is set to revolutionise the way we get around
with its three-in-one approach. Years of research canvassing parents about frustrations with current baby products,
producing prototypes and extensive testing, led to this stunning modular system which has already been embraced
by celebrity parents like Maggie Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts.
The Orbit features a truly compact one-handed fold - an absolute
blessing for parents juggling many objects or children!
Rather than just the reversible handle of other high end prams, Orbit
employs SmartHub rotation, which means that the
seat can be rotated 360 degrees allowing the child to face foward, rear
or sideways - great for cafes. The system can be upgraded later to
include a stroller seat (the car seat is approved for overseas use).
Orbit have their eyes firmly set on delivering a system that is not only the ultimate in clever design, but is
beautiful and eco-conscious. The company's headquarters and manufacturing operations are run with the preservation of
the environment in mind, and they're even releasing a special
green edition of the Orbit in order to highlight the
company's eco-friendly direction.
Great consideration and effort has gone into eliminating chemical processes that harm the planet.
You'll need to bypass the car seat function for now (not for
Australian use as a car seat but makes a gorgeous pram attachment),
however, as a pram for infant and toddler, this is a
buy that will have your social circle talking! People will be falling
over themselves to get a closer look at one of these beauties.
Available in your choice of stylish black or earthy mocha.
The Orbit System comes at a cost of US$900 and is not available in Australia yet - perhaps a reshipper could be the go....or a close relative or friend.
We've been getting a lot of emails regarding people's experiences and interest in the new Micralite Toro and Joolz Bloom prams and thought the best way to enable people to share their thoughts was to start a discussion thread.
Feel free to ask your questions and share your experiences. We'd all love to hear the details!
In August we let you know about a new pram on the market, Bloom by a company called Joolz. It looks pretty chic and I really want to see one in the flesh.
It looks to me like a combination of the Bugaboo features and the Stokke design. It boasts adjustable handle bars, wheel suspension, folds with or without the seat attached, has many seat positions, reversible seat option, adjustable footrest, has a newborn bassinet, can be used in combination with a car seat... and the list goes on.
With a huge choice of colour and fabric designs, you can choose one main colour and a different seat colour (very Bugaboo-style).
Currently only for sale in Germany, Netherlands and Austria.
Thanks to Sarah, one of our readers, we can share with you her experience with ordering her Joolz Bloom to Australia. She has just had one shipped from Europe and ordered through Babycare in the Netherlands and it only took 11 days to ship to Australia and it was €85 in shipping (very reasonable). Sarah is going to give us a full report once she's driven the pram for a couple of weeks, we can't wait for her to share her experiences with us.
In the meantime check out the video of the Joolz Bloom on their website.
