I remember the days when going to a friend’s house entailed having to adjust my eyes to walls swathed in every busy, robust print of wallpaper imaginable. The fashion later became an interior design faux pas and wallpaper was stuck with a dowdy reputation for decades.
I’m happy to say that wallpaper has had a revolution and is back in full force. The difference versus the 1970s is that it is now used as an accent on one wall rather than to swath every room in the house. Finding contemporary, original, striking wallpaper is no longer an impossible mission.
World-renowned Finnish design house Marimekko have added to the happy world of wallpaper with their new line featuring some of their most beloved fabric designs. This is sensational news for all those Marimekko fans and their little tots as well! The Bo Boo wallpaper, pictured above, of cars, trucks and buses is perfect for the kid’s bedroom or playroom while the famous Unikko print below would add a touch of flowery brightness to any little girl’s space.
There’s also plenty for us adults to choose from so head to Always Mod in the US who specialise in all things Marimekko. All wallpapers are priced at US$89 for a double roll. Shipping is available to Australia.
