Jessie Breakwell Gallery – surreal artwork for the nursery

An investment piece of art should be show-stopping and eye-catching – and this surreal collection from Melbourne artist Jessie Breakwell ticks both boxes.

Children see the world through rose-coloured glasses. Everything is fun, things aren’t always what they seem and what is every day and mundane to adults can be the most thrilling thing to a child. That sort of perception is translated beautifully into Jessie Breakwell’s Jungle Collection.

While not specifically aimed at nurseries, this series of whimsical and amusing jungle creatures certainly lends itself to being displayed in a child’s space. From the bright colours, to the inclusion of seemingly strange objects, I feel Jessie has captured the essence of a child’s imagination.

Jessie Breakwell describes her work as offbeat, quirky and full of wonder. She’s influenced by Brett Whiteley and Henri Matisse, and I love how she describes her style: I’m not into realism, there’s enough drama going on in the world at the moment so I prefer to take a lighter look at life.

The Jungle Collection features a range of animals, including zebras and giraffes, in colourful and vibrant settings. Contact Jessie Breakwell Gallery for pricing, or to view works in the inner eastern Melbourne suburb of Prahran. There are some ready to buy pieces in her online gallery, and Jessie also creates commissioned artwork.
