When decorating my children’s bedrooms, I resisted splashing out on many beautiful decor pieces in favour of a few ‘keepsake’ items that would transition from nursery to bedroom as they grew up – essentially art and quality bedding.
Art and bedding combine with the sumptuous range of blankets from Dutch textile artist Mae Engelgeer. Inspired by flags and bows, the Fest and Muse collections feature bold geometric shapes and an equally modern palette – black, greys, orange and cobalt blue.
Engelgeer’s fabrics are all woven in the Textile Museum in Tilburg, The Netherlands. The blankets are double-sided and made out of mohair, thick acrylic and lurex yarns (you can’t have a bow without a little sparkle!) – perfect on the bed or as a throw rug.

Prices range from $165 for cot-sized blankets to $640 for large blankets and are available in Australia from Minibots.
