A little birdie told me... about Flights of Fancy Mobiles

Artist and craftsperson Kristin Loffer Theiss has a truly quirky imagination which has inspired these playful Flights of Fancy mobiles she designs.

Each bird is handmade and hand stitched in soft wool and cotton felt.  Consisting of four funky colourful birds and a turquoise egg to hold them all together, they range in size from 15 – 19cm.  With their fun vibrant colours and patterns and humourous expressions, they will no doubt tickle the fancy of young and old alike and will be treasured for years to come as heirlooms.  Also available in high contrast black and white – great stimulation for newborns.

Available in Australian through kindergallery, contact them directly for pricing and availability as they are truly unique pieces.

Puka Puka Mobiles

Mobiles provide a lot of visual stimulation for young babies that encourage interest in his wider environment and also stimulates his instinct to reach out and touch – all great for developing motor skills.

Watching one of the Puka Puka mobiles gently swaying to a summer breeze will not only stimulate your child, but will also be deeply relaxing to caregivers.   Designed in Australia, they take their inspiration from nature with their relaxed organic design.  The Marine mobile has been inspired by the washed up debris scattered around Blanket Bay in Victoria.  The Sprout mobile takes its inspiration from the regeneration of nature after bushfires – the new growth juxtaposed against the burnt out landscape.

Available in two colour ranges, prices start at $120 and are available to order online at Puka Puka.

Blik Wall Decals - new range now available

I've recently had to decorate a nursery, and being the second time around, have found it hard to find creative inspiration. Sure, the colour scheme is down pat, but the room lacks the pizazz I usually like. Busy parents will benefit from the extra help a beautiful wall decal can give - these ones from Blik fit the bill with a new range of 6 decals from 'Lifestyle Designer' Mel Kim. We last checked in with Blik on Babyology in September. This is a company on the move with new collections coming out regularly, meaning new designer blood, new looks and new aesthetic opportunities for your home.

One of our favourites is the Koi design, with others including giraffes, hares, geese and planes. Kim has an excellent grasp of the Blik style, her designs as groovy and desirable as the rest of the collections. The hardest thing will be selecting just one! Choose your own colour combinations to suit your decor and voila, you have instant visual interest.

Luckily for us Blik ship to Australia!

Australian Designer Bholu bed linen

Bed linen is a serious weakeness of mine. Couple that with anything that even remotely resembles an elephant, and it's a sure thing I'll fall for it. So here it is - amazingly beautiful manchester from Bholu. My very favourite colour combination of red and white are featured in the Bholu Bubalah linen range with your choice of Frederick Elephant, Ignacious Critter and Marjorie Duck, exquisitely embroidered with silk onto each sheet set, bed cushion and swaddling wrap. The wraps are huge at 105cm square, so will have many uses and see your baby through to the last days of wrapping.

Strikingly contemporary in design, the roots of Bholu's creations lie in a 2 year residency in India by its founder, Australian Jodie Fried. Impressed by the intricacy of the local women's embroidery, Jodie returned later to show them her own designs. They were amused by their lack of sophistication and joked that their "Bholu" (endearing term for a child) could do much better. Thus a company was born and now employs Gujarati women for the ethical production of these delectable homewares. The toys are also a must see!

Contact Bholu about ordering.

Finding a night-light that doesn’t require plugging into the main power isn’t easy, but here is an adorable solution for you.  The Mushroom Lamp is powered using 4 AA batteries and has a bright white LED inside that will provide just enough light for comforting your child after dark and enabling you to sneak into the room and check on him/her.

A great idea too when travelling to bring a little bit of home with you, especially at night when sleeping in a different bed - a few accessories from home can make all the difference to a good night’s sleep.

Buy online
for US$12, with international shipping a low flat fee of US$3.  A choice of red, blue or green mushrooms are available.
