Actors Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder welcomed a little girl into the world on Tuesday, July 25, marking the start of their “month of silence” alone with their new addition.
People broke the news on Thursday (US time) that the famous couple, who married in April 2015 after announcing their engagement only a few months earlier, have named their daughter Bodhi Soleil.
Hi Little One I know you, but only because I feel you. How is it possible to love someone so much already? All I know for sure is it's the strongest feeling I've ever felt. We've been sharing this body for quite some time, and we've already experienced so much together. We can't wait to meet you… Love Your parents
While we don’t know any other details yet about the highly anticipated bub, we do know her parents have been eagerly awaiting her arrival and had chosen to keep the sex a surprise.
“How is it possible to love someone so much already?” The new mum asked recently in an Instagram post, along with other messages of love for their unborn baby, in a lovely pregnancy announcement back in May.
Thank you @fitpregnancy for such a sweet cover shoot and for allowing me to feel so comfortable talking about some of the most intimate and exciting moments of my life. And of course, thank you for including @bayouwithlove and encouraging a discussion on sustainable fashion and the positive impact that has had on my journey to becoming a mama :) (link in bio)
A month of silence
We also know that the 28-year-old Twilight star and her Vampire Diaries hubby will be out of action for at least a month now, after Nikki revealed in a recent interview with Fit Pregnancy and Baby magazine that the couple would be off the radar for the first stage of their baby’s life.
“We’ll take the baby’s first month for ourselves,” she said. “Just the three of us, no visitors, and we’re turning off our phones too, so there’s no expectation for us to communicate … You don’t get those first 30 days back, and we want to be fully present.”
So don’t expect to see any photos of the precious little bub until around the end of August or perhaps later. Bummer! But good on them for setting clear boundaries and sticking to them. Introducing your new little person to all your loved ones in those first few days and weeks can be overwhelming.
Sohalia prefers shoulders to laps…she is our sweet shoulder cat. I’ll be at CatCon exclusively on Sunday, August 13th – looking forward to seeing all of you, taking part in the CatCon Awards and talking all things feline and ISF! FYI: $2 of every ticket goes to benefit the Ian Somerhalder Foundation. Thank you @Catconworldwide For more info and tickets visit: catconworldwide.com
Cat dad duties
Ian Somerhalder also told People magazine recently that looking after cats has really helped him prepare for fatherhood – fur babies are still babies after all!
“I’ve learned to smile through cleaning endless amounts of poop and pee,” he said.
“To get up in the middle of the night to bottle feed eight kittens that would die without you, it gives you a sense of what it’s like to care for something that depends on you for its survival,” the 38-year-old added.
“It’s a very special thing. It’s a great beginner’s course.”
What’s in a name
Bodhi is a Sanskrit name meaning ‘awakened’ or ‘enlightenment’ and can be both a male and female name. It’s quite popular today with celebrities such as Megan Fox and Teresa Palmer who both called their sons Bodhi (also the name of Patrick Swayze’s cool character in 90s movie Point Break!). Soleil on the other hand is French and means ‘sun.’ Beautiful!
Welcome little Bodhi and congratulations Ian and Nikki! We think you’re going to be fabulous parents.
