As I sit down to write this, a dear friend has just given birth to a new baby boy, so I’ve got cradles on the brain. It’s hardly a surprise since there are so many lovely ones available. This one is pretty gorgeous too, and fair trade no less.
The hanging bassinet in the picture above (and with much more detail below) is from Fine Little Day, a Swedish company who sell all kinds of ethically produced homewares boasting that trademark Scandinavian style. The cradle is handmade by Bangladeshi women, and it might look familiar if, like me, you had a mother who was into macrame in the seventies!
The cradle can hold up to twenty kilograms, and because it hangs, a few strategically placed hooks around the house will give you plenty of flexibility. You can even use it as a travel cot. It comes in at €265, which includes the organic mattress. Complete the look with the striking black and white Gran blanket in lovely soft cotton. It’s €42 and machine washable, as every good baby product should be!
You can pick them up online from Fine Little Day, which will ship to Australia.
