I’m not exactly sure what is going on here – is it a cubby house? Is it a dress? Is it a performance piece? Regardless, it’s so bizarre that it has to be shared.

Created by designers Aamu Song and Johan Olin, who together form the Helsinki-based architecture and design firm Company, the aim of the Spatial Dress is to keep mum’s hands free and the kids busy. Well, I guess it’s mission accomplished, provided you don’t have to walk anywhere or plan on sitting down.

Scroll through some of the design projects at Company and you could be forgiven for thinking you are flicking through that book about crazy Japanese inventions that did the rounds a few years ago – there’s a hooded backpack for when you need to carry stuff and wear a hat at the same time; riding trousers for families without ponies; Goldilocks-inspired chairs for sleeping; and penguin dressups for kids… and adults.

Then there are flashes of simple Scandinavian design brilliance – a sweet mushroom stool, superb wooden jigsaws and birch bags that without doubt are the most stylish shopping baskets I’ve seen.
