Okay, it’s not exactly a birthday party, but this toy soldier-themed christening celebration is so utterly divine that we just had to show it to you.

Li-Ann was an architect before her boys arrived and her flair for design certainly shows in the stunning celebration she created for her ten-month-old identical twin sons Hamish and Luca earlier this year.

We love both the sentiment behind Li-Ann’s toy soldier reception theme and the way that it’s perfect for babies without being babyish. She chose soldiers to represent strength, courage and honour  – the traits she wants to instill in her sons as they grow.

Li-Ann and her brood live in Melbourne but the party was hosted by Hamish and Luca’s grandparents for the boys and a cousin in the glorious gardens of their home in Malaysia.

Li-Ann designed the party invitations herself, along with the menu cards, the bunting, the treat bags, the thank-you cards, cupcake toppers, soldier decorations and all the other cheery party bits and pieces.

The perfect attention to detail isn’t just in the decor. Guests feasted on satays, laksas and curries made to order by a team of cooks hawker-style in the garden, in honour of the boys’ Eurasian heritage, before being invited to indulge with the sweets table. And what a feast! Lemon poppy seed cakes, chocolate marshmallows on sticks, eclairs, jellies, profiteroles, macaroons in red, blue and yellow to match the soldier decorations, and all manner of traditional Malaysian sweets. We’ll let the stunning photos speak for themselves…

If you thought it couldn’t possibly get any more delightful, just look at these toy soldier gingerbreads a friend made to give to departing guests as party favours. Li-Ann found some toy soldier decorative paper at The Wrapping Paper Co to decorate the party bags and even made the darling little pegs used on top.

I don’t think you’ll be surprised to learn that Li-Ann recently started her own business – Ham & Pea – designing stunning stationery and putting together equally dazzling events. Li-Ann, we salute you! And we can’t wait to see what you do to celebrate Hamish and Luca’s first birthday!
