It’s impossible to throw an amazing kids’ birthday that will leave your guests all agape and still get change from a hundred bucks, right? Wrong.
The farm party that Jaclyn threw for her son Josiah’s first birthday in April this year cost less than one hundred dollars. True. Take a look at how she did it – we’re sure you’ll be impressed!

The party was held on Josiah’s great granddad’s farm in Victoria. In keeping with that farm theme, Jaclyn served up lots of farm-fresh produce to her guests – sun-ripened strawberries and crisp apples – alongside the fairy bread and grissini.

Jaclyn, pictured below with the overall-clad birthday boy, made all the decorations herself. It’s amazing what one keen mum can do with a little bit of cheap blue gingham fabric, some wicker and a whole lot of imagination! She also used these darling printable alphabet bunting shapes to make a birthday banner.

How adorable, not to mention original, are these party favours. Teeny tiny jars of homemade blackberry jam topped with itsy bitsy gingham lids and finished with a handwritten note and some string. Totally gorgeous!

The birthday cake is pretty sweet too, and made with much love (not to mention talent) by one of Jaclyn’s cousins, who even handmade each of the sugar farm animals on top.

Here’s another fabulous idea. Jaclyn got all the guests to write special messages to her first-born to be placed in a time capsule and opened on his twenty-first birthday in 2031.

Jaclyn, your party may be small on budget but I’m certain all our readers will agree it’s definitely big on impact!

Brilliant!! Good on you! Setting a budget and sticking to it is half the fun!!
Thanks so much for featuring our little party! Was so much fun creating it all and celebrating our little man’s life :)
This is so lovely! I love wholesome, home made family things and everything here is just what I love. I love that it is no fuss and not insane expensive but looks more inviting than any over done party I’ve ever seen. I’m borrowing your jam idea too for my girls’ birthdays!
I love the time capsule idea. I will be using it for sure!
thank you ladies :)
Love this…especially the design of labels. Did you make these yourself, use special software or have them printed?
OMG that time capsule idea is the cutest thing. I am stealing that
I LOVE the time capsule idea Jaclyn. Where did you get those from?
