When a busy mum visited a chain store’s baby change room, she was met with a kind and life-affirming surprise from another thoughtful mum.
Blowout crisis averted
Christina Causland was in Homegoods in Solana Beach, California when she stumbled across a random act of kindness that really struck a chord.
Propped beside the change table was a care-package, including a few differently-sized clean nappies and baby wipes. There was also a handwritten note:
“I once found myself in this exact spot with a newborn with a crazy blowout and NO DIAPERS or WIPES. An unmitigated disaster, that was! Just in case you have found yourself in the same sort of pickle, I brought in some wipes and diapers to save the day. Good luck out there! Happy holidays! – Sarah”
What a gem!
Christina snapped a photo of Sarah’s blowout-saving gesture, sharing it on Instagram to reassure the world that there really are good things happening out there, amidst the festive road rage and supermarket line-cutting.
“I feel like there is so much negativity in the world, that it’s really important to share the positive things, no matter how big or small,” Christina told Huffington Post.
Been there, done that
Not only is Sarah’s blowout busting kit super-considerate, it’s pretty lovely that her note recognised the new-mum struggle, made it semi-universal and provided a reassuring solution.
Most mums can attest to the fact that in those early days of parenting, it’s nice to know that others have gone before you and navigated rogue blowouts and tricky bits, living to tell the tale.
We’re not always as prepared as we’d like to be, and Sarah confirmed that this was a) okay and b) never the complete end of the world.
Hopefully this care package went to someone who really needed it and confirmed that, even when we’re out there in the wilds of holiday preparations, we’re all in this together.
