What’s best for children’s decor – a blank canvas or spaces bursting with colour?

We recently showed you Nuno Nono, a kindergarten that was decorated in minimalist white. In complete contrast is Ecole Maternelle Pajol, a kindergarten in Paris.

Architects Palatre & Leclère retained much of the building’s 1940s facade when given the task of recreating the space. The small rainbow at the entrance to the kindergarten gives a hint as to what’s to come – and that’s bright colour both inside and out.

Apart from the emphasis on colour, the architects used a variety of textures and a variety of shapes, giving the spaces a playful feel – look at the red snail-like stall dividers in the bathroom and the bookshelf shaped like a cloud – gorgeous! I particularly like the Art Deco-inspired ‘fans’ painted on the wall – a subtle nod to the building’s history.
