Keepcup – reducing the use of disposable coffee cups

There’s no doubt that many parents enjoy a good caffeine hit to help get them through a busy day. And I’m no exception. But I’ve started to notice just how many disposable coffee cups end up in landfill because of my caffeine habit.

Disposable cups are unrecyclable: they have a plastic coating which renders them only suitable for landfill. So when you stop and think about how many take-aways walk out of each cafe’s doors every day, week, month and year, it adds up to a whole lot of environmental accountability.

I’m doing something about it and have ordered a KeepCup for each member of my family as well as for several work colleagues. These Australian designed cups will ensure your barista still loves you as their standard size fits under the handle of the machine (and in the dishwasher!). They last about four years and at the end of life they can be disposed of in your recycling bin!

Available in a gazillion gorgeous colour combinations, they currently come in sizes small ($10.20) and medium ($12.20), with plans to release grande and babycino sizes. What’s more, they’re BPA and Phthalate-free. You can even indicate your coffee preference on the embossed band!

Get some from the KeepCup store and start a new habit in your social and work circles.

  1. Where do you find these things?! I am about to order one for my husband. I was just telling my Mum I needed something else for his birthday this week. He will love it! Well, him and his coffee addiction will love it. ;)
