Retro fabric, cakes, fabulous photography, parties… it’s all there. What’s not to love about Amy Stevens’ ‘art’?
US photographer Amy Stevens started combining cakes and photography when she turned thirty. Deciding to set herself a challenge to photograph thirty birthday cakes, she had to start with learning how to bake and decorate a cake. Stevens equipped herself with a Martha Stewart cake decorating kit but after a few tries realised her cakes were never going to look like those in the books – therefore, she was free to make cakes “as grotesque and as amazing” as she liked.
And so began Stevens’ Confections collection – photographs of cakes crammed with colour, clashing patterns and luridly coloured icing. For the record, I suspect that perfecting her ‘haphazard’ look cakes is actually quite tricky!
Selected prints of Stevens’ work can be purchased online, prices start at US$20.

I love how people are so creative, doing things I would have never ever thought of. Love that crazy lopsided blue and white cake. Crazy!!
