Birthday cakes are my favourite part of the whole party extravaganza; it’s the centrepiece of the party for me, tying the whole theme together.

In my case, all my daughter wanted for her second birthday was a yellow party. We were lucky enough to have Cake Occasions offer to make the birthday cake, and it really was one to remember. From the day we started planning the party with Chris & Alisa, it was a terrific experience.

Cake Occasions’ principal designer, Christopher Chavez, has more than fifteen years’ experience as a professional cake artist, and this really shows in his work. And dealing with Alisa in the design phase was so easy; all I did was send over an image of the kind of critters we were thinking of (image below), and they did the rest.

The birthday girl and guests were blown away. The cake not only looked fantastic but tasted great as well. We went for chocolate mud (they have eight other flavours to choose from), which in addition to being the most decadently delicious cake I’ve ever tasted, has layers of icing inside as well as around the cake (I proceeded to eat the leftovers for an entre week after the party, even after fulfilling guests’ requests to take slices home).

Cakes start at $250 (this one was priced at $350) and require about two weeks’ notice for best results. Cake Occasions is located in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and delivers all over the country. The average delivery price is $60, depending on location.

If you fancy making your own creation, Cake Occasions will be hosting some Novelty Christmas Classes. The first will be held on Sunday 6th December and students will learn how to make a ‘Christmas Angel’ cake in a Dolly Varden style. A second class will be held on Sunday December 13th, where students will learn how to sculpt and decorate a ‘Christmas Tree’ cake. Each of these classes costs $350. In January, Cake Occasions will be hosting a class for advanced students only; students will learn how to make the ‘Love Bug’ cake (pictured below left) and this class is $500.  See how we loved their amazing cake making class earlier this year.

Check their website for more details as this will soon be updated with new cake making class schedule and costs.

We also want to say a huge congratulations to Chris and Alisa on the birth of their third son!
