Another child-friendly cafe – Bondi Trat

bondi trattoria Another child friendly cafe Bondi Trat

Every year we used go to Sculptures by the Sea. Since we had kids, we haven’t made it once. This year we were determined to get back. The kids woke up early, it was a beautiful day, so we drove down to the beach, got a parking spot, walked down past Icebergs, only to discover it had finished – we were three days late.

To salvage the morning (and take a break after walking up and down stairs with the kids on our backs) we decided to  have a quick coffee at a cafe. The first one we came to was the good ol’ Bondi Trattoria. We hadn’t been in years, and even then, only for dinner.

It was a great surprise to discover just how child-friendly the ‘Trat’ is. Highchairs, pencils, puzzles, and a perfect 80% foam babycino made it a great place to have a coffee before starting the day. And with those amazing views of the perfect weather today, we didn’t even miss the art.

Bondi Trattoria is at 34 Campbell Parade Bondi Beach and is open Monday to Friday 7am till late and on weekends from 8am till late.

Earlier this year we put together a list of child-friendly cafe’s with your help. If you have any more suggestions, please email us or put your favourite cafe’s in the comments.

  1. Ingrid, one of our readers from QLD sent through a couple of suggestions from her local area -

Cafe Savoia, Merthyr Village, New Farm, Brisbane.
When every second shop in New Farm is a cafe, you can afford to be picky. And what makes this place stand out from the crowd is the owner’s attitude. Even when 4 pram-loads of screaming babies arrive, he will smile and instantly start moving tables around so we can all fit in. Equally good with toddlers and messy meal-times, the staff are relaxed about letting kids be kids (a welcome relief after all those places that expect them to be seen and not heard)

Urban Harmony, Old Cleveland Road, Coorparoo, Brisbane
Part cafe and part stylish baby shop, its a relative newcomer to the market. They know they are off the beaten track so try hard to make up for that with interesting promotions (there was a photographer taking free baby photos the other week). Play-pen and changing facilities are excellent, hot drinks can be served in takeaway cups to save spills. And there’s parking right underneath the cafe too.
