littlesprowtzpack.jpg

I rushed around in the final days of my first pregnancy gathering all the little things recommended to ease the pain of labour. All the reading in the world could not have prepared me for what was to come, but small comforting mementos and things to focus my thoughts on gave me some relief when the big day finally arrived. Now Little Sprowtz have released a pack containing all the essentials, to save you all the legwork!

It's your own portable 'midwife unit' with products aimed at pain diversion, your comfort and peace of mind during labour. For pain diversion, the pack contains concentration balls, Mothers Massage Essential Oil, massage ball, eight affirmation cards, a soothing blend of essential oils and a focus frame.

I took a picture of my beloved Burmese cats in with me - for you, it could be an ultrasound picture or one of your other children or family. For your comfort, there are cotton blend socks, glucose bites for energy, a coloured washer, four hair elastics, and 'Minty Calm' lip balm to soothe dry lips and balance a queasy tummy. For peace of mind Little Sprowtz have included a support person and pain management card, lovely chocolate brown tote bag and a Little Sprowtz gift box keepsake.

This pack also provides a whole variety of methods for empowerment during the birth experience and is also a helpful framework for the support person to apply strategies when the woman can no longer do so.

The creators have thought of everything, making it easy for you to gather up the pack in one gorgeous box, and have it handy when that nerve-wracking and exciting time arrives! This makes a wonderfully unique gift for a mum to be and her support partner as she approaches one of the most momentous occasions of life.

Available for $68 plus post from Metro Mum.

By mentioning Babyology at checkout you will receive a free Mother Reminder bracelet.

Jan Eleni - truly personalised art

What a wonderfully unique idea! A collage of your child's artwork through the years - collated, miniaturised, and arranged to form one framed artwork. Begin by collecting the colourful paintings and drawings your child makes and Jan Eleni, children's decorator extraordinaire, will make them into a lifelong keepsake - perfect for a 21st birthday gift!

Not only do they look absolutely stunning after being expertly put together by combining like colours and themes in the artwork, they will be something your child can carry through life and treasure, until passed to the next generation. It's the ideal way to archive sentimental art in a form that can be appreciated every single day rather than filed away and looked at only intermittently.

Made to last a lifetime with archival quality inks, papers, adhesives and matting, each artwork is presented as a small tile amongst many others, drawing in the observer for a closer look. I can imagine hovering over one of these for a long time, taking in every detail.

Of course the precious original artworks are returned to you upon completion of the framed collage. The most popular size holds 112 mini artworks - more than enough for a whole showcase spanning many years of daycare, school and home explorations in art! You don't have to keep every artwork they ever do - just make sure the best ones get a permanent showing.

For more specific enquiries, shipping and ordering information, email Jan Eleni.

Dressing up is a childhood institution that lends itself to imaginative capers and trying out different personas. Merely putting on a hat or mum's shoes can transport a child to another place and time far removed from the daily humdrum of ordinary life. I used to gallavant around my back yard pretending to be Monkey, with my friends Pigsy and Tripitaka. With just a wooden stick in my hand, I was transformed!

The Little Hero Cape will bring with it special powers for your child to try out. How on earth to decide on the colours - with names like Lightning Lime and Atomic Pink, consideration may need to be given to the type of superhero your child wants to be!

Handmade in 'aerodynamic satin' choose from two sizes, three symbols and five colourways, and take superhero play well beyond the old teatowel!

US$35 each plus shipping, from Mahar Drygoods.

The not-so-dumb dummy

Ever felt guilty about giving your baby a dummy to suck? Me too. Like many first-time mums, I agonised over whether to dummy or not to dummy when my son Jack was born. The dummy won out – Jack was one very sucky baby - but I felt a little twinge every time I popped one in his mouth. And it’s happening all over again with his baby sister Isobel. So I can’t begin to explain how thrilled I am to find a pacifier that will ease at least some of my dummy guilt.

The Organic Pacifier by Natursutten is just as the name suggests. Organic. It’s made from pure, natural rubber. That means no allergy-causing nasties or chemicals, no artificial colours and no PVCs. The one-piece moulding means there’s no little cracks or crevices for germs to hide. And my favourite bit? Your baby can suck it as much as they like and it won’t leave those tell-tale dummy marks on their face. The Organic Pacifer comes in orthodontic or round versions in sizes to suit from newborn to toddler. Grab them online at Eco Child for a measly $9.95 each plus postage.

If you've found it difficult to get Blik wall decals to Australia, we come bearing good news about a US site which will gladly ship them here! not Neutral is a multi-disciplinary design firm based in LA and they teamed up with Blik to design some groovy wall graphics which you may well have seen already online.

With some great Blik/not Neutral designs available, here's your chance to decorate those bedrooms with the lovely 'Apple' graphics, as well as 'Season' and 'Farm'. The Farm and Season sets come with three sheets of decals in different colours, and the Apple set with four. There are also co-ordinating pillows and rugs in some of the designs so you can quickly pull together a cohesive look.

Easily applied and removed, wall decals are a great option when decorating children's bedrooms. We all know how fast they grow out of certain looks, but it's still nice to have age appropriate things without having to worry about longevity. Decals are less expensive and don't have to be as permanent as artwork so you can change the look of their rooms more often.

Contact fab interior and garden design site not Neutral on their toll free number to organise your order with international shipping.
