Those final weeks of pregnancy can be HELL for some women so it’s no wonder many of us try just about anything to speed up labour and get the baby out – even filing a legal eviction notice, which is what one Utah mama did recently and guess what? It worked!
Fed up and about to pop
Kaylee Bays was two weeks away from expecting her third child on Monday 16 October, when she started having contractions. Naturally she thought her labour was on, but annoyingly the pains stopped and it was back to work the next day at Fourth District Court where she works as a clerk.
Frustrated and completely over it, the fed up expecting mum decided to take matters into her own hands. A lot of pregnant women at the end of their third trimester will try eating certain foods; some fresh pineapple and super spicy curries or going for long walks and having sex to bring on labour, but not Kaylee. She went straight to the law.
Baby, you’re being evicted
The exasperated mum-to-be was tired of waiting it out and asked Judge Lynn Davis to sign a hilarious, yet official, eviction notice giving her bub “three calendar days, including weekends and holidays” to vacate the premises for being a nuisance.
Addressed to her baby at “Mommy Belly Lane,” the notice stated the VERY VALID reasons for the eviction:
“Mommy is uncomfortable and running out of room for you! Too much heartburn and rib kicking, and I’m sick of waddling!!!”
The joke notice also stated that if her baby didn’t comply they would be forcibly evicted and made to pay for rent and damages.
Law abiding citizen
Kaylee’s little girl must have received the memo because soon after her contractions started up again and 12 hours later, much to her tired mama’s relief, Gretsel Connie Hansel vacated the premises; making her much anticipated and safe entrance into the world. Hooray!
“She didn’t want to be in contempt of court,” the new mum of three joked to Deseret News, when asked about the details of her daughter’s unusual pre-birth circumstances.
Fun for everyone
According to Kaylee, her baby girl’s law-abiding ways were a “running joke throughout the hospital all day,” and the judge was “tickled pink” that the eviction notice had actually worked.
“I just think it’s great that there are judges who have a great sense of humour, and we all get along wonderfully down here,” she said.
A baby girl born this morning at American Fork Hospital did so under official court orders. Kaylee Bays was two weeks…
A legal first
The hospital where Gretsel was delivered also posted a statement on Facebook about the humorous circumstances surrounding her birth, revealing that the judge was initially quite amused by the request.
“He told Kaylee that in 31 years, this was the first time he’d ever been asked to sign an eviction notice for a fetus,” American Fork Hospital wrote on Facebook.
We bet! We’re just glad this quick-witted (and completely over it) pregnant mum managed to think of it – genius!
