This dreamy Mexican-themed maternity shoot is like nothing we’ve ever seen
US-based photographer Skaiste Vingilys has taken the pregnancy photo shoot to a whole other level, transforming this mum-to-be into beautiful, bloom-adorned goddess.
Pregnant power
While many maternity photographs are prettily ethereal and dreamy, this series borders on fairy-tale gorgeous, with saturated colours and flowers and foliage featuring prominently.
“Our inspiration came from the authenticity and culture of Mexican folklore,” Skaiste says.
The subject of the images, pregnant mum, Jeannette Rivera is far from the wistful-expectant-lady-in-a-meadow (not that there’s anything wrong with that!) that we often see in maternity photos. Instead, she’s showing the kind of determination and strength that sums up the experience of pregnancy – for many mums – pretty perfectly.
Skaiste has shared the images on her Instagram and Facebook accounts, much to the delight of her followers.
This shoot is part of a proposed series that Skaiste hopes to undertake.
“My dream was to do creative photoshoots with expecting mothers of different nationalities, wearing clothes traditional to their cultures,” the photographer says.
“We will have much more projects to come and each and every one will be very unique and special. We hope you will enjoy the final product as much as we do.”
Feisty AND floral
We love this alternative to the usual gentle, pastel versions of pregnancy. It might just spark a whole new movement, depicting flower-crowed, feisty warrior women who birth basketball-sized kiddos and then get on with daily life.
There’s nothing pastel or wistful about that!
