Cookies and milk? It’s a breastfeeding biscuit

Milk makers 01 Cookies and milk? It’s a breastfeeding biscuit

I ate lots of cookies when I was breastfeeding. They were of the Mint Slice variety and not all that good for me (nutritionally that is, but I suspect good for my emotional health).

Milkmakers is a US-based bakery that makes lactation cookies. What?! Yes, lactation cookies. The cookies contain key ingredients including oats, brewer’s yeast and flax seed, which have been shown to provide nutrients that benefit the health of both breastfeeding mothers and their babies as well as essential fatty acids, fibre, protein and iron.

Milkmakers offer US residents a monthly ‘cookie subscription‘ service so that you have ample supply to munch on during the time you are breastfeeding. It would certainly make a unique gift for new mums!

Milkmakers are not available in Australia but we’d love to hear your thoughts – would you buy a ‘lactation cookie’?

  4. Awesome idea! Not sure why it’s dumb. There are recipes for lactation cookies out there but I’d definitely buy them when I don’t have time to make them.

  6. I think it’s a great idea for those lacking the time or energy to make their own cookies or smoothies. New mums need easy methods for improving their milk supply, so I think as long as the cookies weren’t ridiculously expensive it would be a good idea! I’m still breastfeeding so I’d love some… if only they’d ship to Australia (or better still if some great local Aussie company would make them that would be awesome!)

  8. I’d consider buying them providing that they were not packed with too much sugar and fat. It’s an interesting idea but eating healthy with a sprinkle it’s key ingredients on museli or cereal would also work… not a dumb idea, a healthy choice.

  9. What a great idea! As someone trying to breastfeed twins I’ll try anything to keep my milk up! I would love to bake them my self but with a 1 & 3 year old as well being able to buy them would be handy! Yes I could throw flax seed ect into a smoothie or some muesli and i do but really not something i can eat while feeding my twins when is when the hunger tends to strike.
