Mum Becky Johns was amazed to discover she’d fallen pregnant so shortly after the birth of her second child, but the real shock was that she’d conceived triplets!
Becky gave birth to baby Mya – a sister for 9-year-old Kayla – in February and before she had time to catch her breath, she was stepping up to the plate for pregnancy number three.
The 30-year-old mum from Wales could scarcely believe what she saw when she had the first pregnancy scan. Three babies were neatly tucked inside her still-recovering body. Oh. My. Gosh.
“I had to stare at the screen just to make sure for myself. I counted the heartbeats one by one. It was true I was actually pregnant with triplets,” Becky told The New York Post.
Becky and her partner, Jason Evans, had been trying for another sibling that would be close in age to newborn Mya, but they never expected to fall so quickly – and with triplets.
“We had decided to try for just one more baby. Kayla was older, so I wanted Mya to have company as she grew older. We thought it may take a while for me to get pregnant, so we started trying straight away,” Becky told Wales Online.
One egg each
The babies were each naturally conceived from a separate egg, Becky explained, giving them the best possible chance at growing into healthy and strong kiddos.
“They were all naturally conceived and they were each from a separate egg, which is really rare,” Becky said.
“Doctors told us it was the healthiest way to have triplets, because they all had a placenta each, it meant there was no risks associated with any one of them sharing a placenta.”
Eleven month gap
Ryan, Raya and Phoebe were born via C-section at the end of January when Becky was 34 weeks pregnant – just eleven months after their sister Mya made her appearance.
Becky was carrying around 15 pounds (6.8kg) of combined baby weight just before their delivery.
“I was so huge by that time I could barely move and doctors wanted to get them out in case I went into labor early,” Becky told the Post. “I was just so relieved they were all healthy and well.”
This amazing mum says she couldn’t be happier with her rapidly expanding family.
“Kayla is thrilled with her three new brothers and sisters and it’s lovely to think that Mya and the triplets will grow up so close in age,” she said.
Huge congratulations to Becky, partner Jason, Kayla and Mya on their beautiful new babies!
