How to plan a fun day out at the beach (without leaving anything at home)

ALDI beach caddy - feature

Remember a time before kids, when a trip to the beach involved no more thought or consideration than the two minutes it took you to grab a towel, a hat, a cozzie and some sunscreen? Well, those days are long gone, my friend. Once you have children to consider, the logistics involved in getting the clan onto the sand with everything you need is akin to planning a military operation.

There is something about the promise of a lovely day at the beach that lulls parents the whole world over into thinking that it will actually be a relaxing day. But the truth is that if you’re not super-organised, a day at the beach is pretty much guaranteed to be anything but relaxing.

The key to keeping everyone happy and safe (and mostly complaint-free) is to get everything completely sorted before you step out of the house. Because a successful day at the beach is all about the stuff you bring along – as much as the stuff you accidentally leave at home.

The very best way to make sure that nothing is left behind is to have a beach day checklist at the ready so you can quickly pull everything together in one place and then pack it neatly into one beach-friendly vessel. Luckily, the Special Buys available today at ALDI, will have you covered for all your beach activities.

ALDI beach caddy day at the beach

We sent our intrepid reporter, Laina and her 18-month-old son, Max, to the beach to test out ALDI’s Crane Beach Caddy’s TARDIS-like capabilities and here is what she had to say:

“The Caddy is a clever idea for carting all of the stuff you need when spending a day at the beach with young children – especially with an active toddler who likes to run and you need to have a hand free to wrangle him.”

“It is really easy to pull along and steer, even with an eager child pulling on one arm, and the rubber tyres travel smoothly over sand and grass. It’s lightweight and fitting flat in the car – we have a little hatchback and it fit in the boot easily. The caddy is a great price at only $49.99.”

How much can one beach caddy carry?

Knowing that you need everything and more when you escort a busy toddler to the beach, Laina took a Girl Guide approach to packing the Crane Beach Caddy, and included:

  • Esky with lunch and cold drinks
  • Water bottle
  • Tiffin carrier – handy three layer snack tin with blueberries, rice crackers and banana chips
  • Picnic blanket
  • Turkish towels – lightweight, compact and super-fast drying
  • Flotation bubble for ocean pool
  • ALDI Crane Neoprene Soccer Ball
  • Sandcastle bucket and spade
  • Sunscreen
  • Book (well, one can hope!)
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses

“The caddy fits a lot in it, and is easy to pack – the elastic netting comes completely off, so no need to wedge everything in and easy to pack back in,” Laina says.

Beach balls get the thumbs up too

Junior reporter, Max, also did a bit of his own reviewing of the ALDI Crane Neoprene Ball Assortment and after a thorough workout on sand and in the surf, his mum says, “Max loved the balls; they’re soft and lightweight, so great for little hands and waterproof so lots of fun.”

The ALDI Crane Beach Caddy $49.99 and neoprene ballsCrane Neoprene Ball Assortment $6.99 are part of ALDI’s Beach Accessories Special Buys, available in store from Wednesday 26th October.
