Not everyone can pull off a jumper with a repeating pattern of pink and orange zebras wearing bowler hats and aviators. Those who can are too short to ride roller coasters and their favourite food is invariably plain pasta. Have you guessed the demographic? Hint: it’s kids. Hipster ones.
For those particularly happening kids, there’s Gardner and the Gang. Created by a Swedish designer living in Singapore, Gardner and the Gang is a collection of streetwear with mad prints inspired by international travels, and made from divinely soft, organic cotton so kids are free to crawl and dance and cartwheel.
Prints are all one-of-a-kind, hand-drawn creations that are screen-printed onto fabrics. Each season’s design features a new set of characters; Gardner, a Love Skull, was the original and still makes appearances in some classic pieces like the gumboots.
Patsy, the aforementioned zebra, is the star of the current Magic & Rock ‘n’ Roll collection, and her co-star is Geene, the KISS-loving sausage dog. Both characters are printed on grey marle jumpers, leggings, and miniskirts, fluoro swimmers and trunks, and basic white tees.
From top to bottom, Gardner and the Gang has kids suited up for all the things hip babies and kids do. You know, dj-ing, breakdancing, riding around on those tiny ironic ‘80s skateboards.
The whole collection is available in the online shop and ships internationally.
