Ahead of the release of her new film, Bad Moms Christmas, actor Kristen Bell revealed that promoting body positivity in her two little girls is a top parenting priority.
The family that squats together…
Kristen and husband, actor Dax Shepard, are parents to 4-year-old Lincoln and 2-year-old Delta and she says teaching them to look after their bodies is a non-negotiable no-brainer.
Kristen, who also stars in NBC series The Good Place (seen in Australia on Netflix) told Shape magazine the family who squats together, grows together!
“It’s important to me to show my children that I care about my health and fitness enough to stay committed,” she explained.
“When I’m in their room with them, I’ll do some squats. When they ask what I’m doing, I’ll say I’m getting my physical fitness in. And because they copy everything I do, the next time they pick up a heavy bag they’ll say, ‘I’m getting my workout in.'”
It’s in the details
The mum-of-two says a wholistic approach to health and happiness should extend to every member of the family, pointing out that we’re taking care of ourselves in little and big ways, every day.
“It’s a value I want to instill in my kids at an early age – that paying attention to your body is mandatory.”
“Whether it’s putting my sunscreen on or doing push-ups, it’s not just me taking care of myself but also helping me shape my daughters,” Kristen said.
Honesty and consistency
It’s the latest insight into how Kristen and Dax parent, hot on the heels of her push for more honesty and transparency when discussing mental health with our kids.
“I’ll take notice if my kids are moody or struggling,” Kristen told Women’s Health earlier this month. “I’ll make sure our dialogue around the house is what it has been for a while, which is that vulnerability equals strength.”
“Whether it’s daddy who goes to AA or mommy who has mental health she has to check in with it. You have to talk about your vulnerabilities with no shame,” she revealed.
So interesting to catch a glimpse of how other parents are managing body image and wellness, right?!
