The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) have just issued a warning to parents about the dangers associated with an undersized cot mattress which is being sold across the country.
Danish by Design cot mattress recall
The recalled product is Danish by Design Pty Ltd’s polyester staple fibre “cotbed” mattress for European sized 140 x 70cm cots – specifically the Troll Nicole Cot, Sun Cot and Lukas Cot.
Danish by Design Pty Ltd sold the mattress nationally between 1 January 2013 and 1 October 2017.
The ACCC explains that gaps between the mattress and cot that are greater than 4cm can cause a risk of entrapment.
Note that this is a limited recall – it’s only undersized versions of this mattress that have been recalled. You can view the full recall at the ACCC website.
Stop and measure
The ACCC are asking parents who bought this product to “stop using the cot and mattress until they have checked the size of the mattress”.
“If the gap between the cot and the mattress is less than 4cm, the product is compliant and is NOT recalled and you can continue to use it,” the ACCC explained.
“If the gap is greater than 4cm, please contact Danish by Design, emailing photographs and information as described in the [linked] set of instructions. A replacement mattress will be sent to affected owners.”
Affected families can head to the Danish by Design website for more information about measuring their mattress correctly.
