Mum shares teething hack so simple, you’ll wonder why you didn’t think of it!

A US mum shared an unusual and apparently very soothing baby teething hack and more than nine million people pondered just how helpful it might be, and began a robust debate.

“Seriously a life-saver”

Emelia Jackson posted her sore gums begone solution on Facebook. The video hack features Emilia’s baby sucking a dummy that’s been filled with water and frozen.

“If your babies are teething, mamas, put water in your soothie, and then put it in the freezer for a couple hours,” she explained. “Seriously a life-saver for teething. He was so content with his cold binky.”

Her post has since gone wildly viral as other parents seek to end their babies’ suffering and banish teething pain once and for all.

Mixed reviews

While many people dubbed Emelia an all-out genius, others decided it was better to say negative things and others still had some issues.

“Yep they do melt and make a mess,” one Facebook user said. “There are ones you buy that have a detachable nipple you can put water in them or frozen milk they’ll enjoy their li’l popsicle. It’s more practical to be on the lookout at the baby section.” #GoodTip

Others wondered if the ice would find its way out and ultimately prove to be a choking hazard. The hole in the dummy is very small, so Emelia thinks a piece of ice can’t find its way out. She suggests use of this icy dummy hack under supervision, though.

Some viewers were very concerned about “baby brain freeze”. Or that the baby would get wet. Emilia said her baby ends up soggy from dribbling away and there’s only a teaspoon or so of water in the dummy. (She was not sure about brain freeze though, because babies find it hard to relay that kind of situation to their parents. It’s possible, we suppose.)

Dummy with a twist

Some Facebook-using parents wondered if babies should even be ingesting water. Emelia stressed that the water goes in the part of the dummy that the baby doesn’t suck. And the nipple part of the dummy has no hole in it. So basically the baby might ingest a tiny bit of water as it leaks out the non-nipple end. 

“Try the same method but with breast milk or formula and open a tiny hole and won’t have a problem with spilling and baby will be more content. Did it with my baby girl,” another genius mum who is familiar with this hack advised, taking the hack next-level.

Some even said this hack worked without needing to add water: “I just freeze the whole thing (no water in it) just to get it cold and my grandbaby loves it,” another pro said.

Others still weren’t asking questions, they had already tried the idea with great success and were just really happy Emelia had shared.

“We did this today and it was awesome!”

Taking all that into consideration, please do check with your doctor or midwife before using any baby-related hacks. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
