Home theatres and small children aren’t a great combination. Cables and speakers provide plenty of opportunity for damage to children and equipment. Fortunately, a new class of products is emerging that provides an alternative to a traditional surround sound setup.
The Yamaha YSP-2200 is a ‘soundbar’. It uses sixteen small speakers and an included subwoofer to create a surround sound field by reflecting sound off the walls of your room, which does away with the need for rear speakers. Its petite form factor lets it sit underneath a television, taking up minimal space while still delivering a big sound.
The YSP-2200 retails for $1,299 and has 7.1 surround sound , 3D compatible HDMI, and an easy to use Automated Calibration System (it took us less than five minutes to set up).
