The countdown to school has begun!

Countdown to school app 2 The countdown to school has begun!

The end of the year is a long way off (that’s what I’m telling myself, anyway) and summer holidays still stretch before us… but that hasn’t stopped my very keen, very excited five-year-old asking me (on an almost daily basis) “When do I start school?”.

Thankfully, there’s an app for that! First Day of School Countdown was created by Appracadabra, the clever folk who brought us the beautiful Count the Animals! app last year.

First Day of School Countdown is simple – using a rainbow of dots, children get a clear, visual representation of how many days there are until the ‘big day’. When you’re down to a week to go, the graphic changes and kids can mark off the days one-by-one – there’s cute little characters who get up to various tricks to build the excitement.

The countdown is accompanied by some very jazzy music and can be used for up to three children. Although designed for a school countdown (the graphics include chalkboard drawings, school bags and so forth) my kids are using it for other events that they are looking forward to, namely birthdays and school holidays.

First Day of School Countdown is $0.99 and available through iTunes.

  1. There is a great website for apps called http://www.educationalappstore.com, which specialises in educational apps for young kids, students and teachers. It is the one I always use when I want to find an educational app, and also the main stop for my friends to buy good apps for their kids.
