I have a very ‘special’ memory of taking the kids to see the movie Tangled. My car needed a small part replaced. It was the school holidays and a thirty-eight degree day in Melbourne. The mechanic promised the job would take less than three hours so rather than endure a hot bus ride home with four kids in tow only to have to come back again, I decided to head to the cool comfort of the cinema, just over the road from the mechanic. As luck would have it, Tangled was about to start and it was the one movie we hadn’t seen that summer.
My husband called later in the day to ask if the car was fixed. “Yes,” I told him, “And it cost $650.” “What!” he shrieked, “They quoted $470!”. You see, the car was $470 but Tangled, in 3D, plus 3D glasses, snacks, drinks and then lunch for five people was $180. So really, $7.49 for new Tangled: Storybook Deluxe app is nothing…

True Tangled fans will want this app regardless of what it contains but for those who are keen to learn what separates an ordinary digital book from a ‘storybook deluxe’, you’ll be pleased to know that the Tangled app includes a number of features and games such as animated clips, jigsaws and colouring pages. The stand-out is the very pretty ‘Floating Lanterns’ game – quite different to other games on kids apps but one they will get the hang of quickly (and I suspect it is as addictive as Tetris was when first introduced).
The app has lots of hidden surprises to stumble across as you read the story. For example, do you recall the one thing that upset Flynn Rider whenever he saw his picture in a wanted poster? The misrepresentation of his nose! Using the app, you can right history and change the style of Flynn’s nose.

Have a peek at the video clip below, if only for a look at the lantern game. Tangled: Storybook Deluxe is available for iPad or iPhone via iTunes for $7.49.
