I just want a monitor that reaches my bedroom. My baby is 4.5months old and I have been sleeping on the floor of her room virtually the whole time as the Oricom we have cuts out of range right at our bedroom door. My house is long which will be great when the baby is older but would love to be able to sleep next to my husband again some time in the next year!

I'm not in the camp who thinks we need these. It's a bit too big brother for me. I just peep at my kids if I want to see them. I think if we let these sort of things run riot we stop trusting our instincts and should the technology fail one time we might miss something vital. Nothing beats our own eyes.

We have the Oricom video monitor and we dont use it every day (small house, I can hear her), but its great when I just want to check in that she is really sleeping, or laying down cooing to sleep (when I leave her alone) or standing up in her crib wide awake (and its time for me to go in.) I love it. Its also very small/portable, so easy to pack in a bag, I take it when she sleeps over at a friends house, or we are on holidays travelling so we can sit out on the back deck having dinner and i dont have to worry about hearing her.

Whenever my cousin babysits she sits and watches the baby sleep. It's addicting :)

Now that the baby is getting older and spending more time playing on her own in her room, I can check in on her without distracting her through the monitor from the kitchen while I'm making lunch for example. I try to encourage that independent play, but I want to make sure she isnt dismantling her bookshelf either
