New generation baby monitoring

sikker3 New generation baby monitoring

Eight years ago I bought a baby monitor. It looked just like a pastel walkie-talkie set and if I didn’t tune it to the right frequency we picked up the neighbour’s baby crying (who naturally cried much, much more than our son). Some years later, video baby monitors became widely available and I remember thinking how ‘high-tech’ they were. Video-schmideo, the Alpha babies (Gen Z is finished, we’re up to Alphas) want a Sikker.

The Sikker (‘sikker’ is Danish for safety) is so much more than just a baby monitor. It is also a radio, alarm, clock, can be used to remotely speak or play music to your baby and monitors and stores baby’s temperature and heart rate. A little too ‘Big Brother’ for you? Perhaps, but there are certainly many times at 2am when I would’ve liked to have stayed in bed and whispered remotely to my baby, “Shhh, go back to sleep.”

The design is only a concept at this stage – obviously a lot more research will go into the safety of babies wearing a wi-fi bracelet and the accuracy of temperature taken at the wrist. In the meantime, the Alphas will have to make do with parents peering in via the video monitor.
