Whether it’s summer’s heat or winter’s cold and flu season that has us barricading our doors and windows, time to rejuvenate our homes with fresh air is so often limited. A humidifier helps to restore some balance in the air, read on to find some of our favourites!

The Japanese are genius with their no-frills and zen-like approach to humidifier design. We loved the round Plus Minus Zero (pictured top, US$254) model and of course the very I Dream Of Jeannie-esque  Middle Humidifier (pictured above, US$213), both from Japan Trend Shop.

The Mast requires no electricity and is as beautiful as it is functional. Made from thin slices of pure Hinoki – Japanese Cypress, it doesn’t get much more natural than this! The Mast is US$119.99 at Gizmine.

Looking like something from a Walt Disney film, the Wacca Aroma Diffuser creates clever rings of steam to freshen the air. Available in white, pink, blue or beige, it’s priced US$243 and available from Japan Trend Shop.

Recently we showed you the modern humidifier and night light marvels from Duux. The Ultrasonic Air Humidifier and the Air Purifier are the ultimate in multi-tasking nursery gadgets. Priced from $99.95 and available from The Pharmacy.

For humidifiers that are a little more obvious, you can’t go wrong with this Ionmax Ionic Cool Mist Humidifier. A whopping six litre water tank means it can safely run all night without a refill! Priced $169.95 from Urban Baby.

The Anion Aroma Diffuser and Humidifier (right, $99.95) is perfect for using with essential oils like eucalyptus and the like for those plagued with a blocked nose. The smaller sibling of the Anion Aroma Diffuser and Humidifier is the Mini Aroma Diffuser (left, $79.95). Again, essential oils can be used in this compact unit, complete with night light.
