If you are still not convinced that iPhones can do everything, try this on for size.
Baby Safe is a clever app that turns your iPhone into a baby monitor. Using a small camera (including cameras installed on laptop computers) the app allows you to receive both audio and video directly to your phone. So, with the camera in your baby’s room, you can see or hear everything your baby does while you are at home, out of the house or even if you are overseas (that bit freaks me out a little!).
Baby Safe delivers all new baby-monitoring benefits. Notably, the Baby Safe is truly portable. The small, wireless camera can be set up anywhere so that you can still use your monitor while travelling. Secondly, because the range of the monitor is essentially limitless, you can check in on the baby even when you’re out (be that at the shops or in Paris).
It is this feature that I would have both loved and hated when my children were babies. My husband regularly sent me out for some ‘alone’ time – I always found it difficult to leave the house, calling out last-minute instructions as I went but once I was actually out, I benefited immensely from the break. Had I had Baby Safe I suspect the temptation to check in on my baby would have been too great!
Other features of the Baby Safe app include digital transmission which eliminates static noise and interference and a PIN number for security. The audio feature is two-way so that you can speak to your baby (or whoever is looking after them) and you can control the angle of the camera remotely.
All of these features come at a tad more than the standard app price – the Baby Safe Monitor is $45.99 plus a camera however that compares favourably to other video baby monitors on the market. Baby Safe is available in the iTunes App store.

That is unreal!! Every baby monitor I’ve ever bought has been useless, and I’ve always been annoyed that they don’t have a try before you buy option! This might be enough to finally convince me to get an iphone…
Hello. I ordered my camera through these people and it never turned up. all my emails to them went unanswered. Be careful!!
I have ordered the camera and now find not available to buy at NZ store! eekkk what to do, be careful!
The camera never did turn up, ended betting money back through paypal..I contacted there support over 15 times and their facebook page and no one ever answered, also the app cant be brought in New Zealand I tunes store so check for OZ, that was actually lucky as with no camera would have wasted 50 dollars aslo on an app I couldnt use..DO NOT BUY! I use a simple phone call app, their are heaps available and cheap. Leave your in the room with Bub and pop on silent, it will call hubbys phone and great if at a resort and want just go eat in the restaurant or swim while bub sleep in room.
Beth,
Can you tell me the name of the phone call app that you use and/or any others that you’re aware of?
sorry just saw your post..bit late but if you have a i phone and search baby monitor in your app store there are a few..I have one that the picture is a blue background with a white monitor picture on it by TappyTaps s.r.o called baby monitor and alarm, not sure of name..they all cost around 4-8 dollars and we have used it now in Bali and Fiji (you dont need to answer phone to avoid costs)..ours have never rang as our girls a great sleeper (peace of mind though) but I have practiced with me in room pretending and it works!
also they keep a log and you can set the time and level you want untill it kicks in..fantastic
all you need is one i phone for the app and another cell for the phone number, set the monitor , leave the room (can also set the time for this to allow) and it starts monitoring..I leave it beside the cot..
this would be great to share..
