It’s funny when you think about it but cots have pretty much stuck to the same tried-and-true design for decades. Sure, there are plenty of contemporary cots to be had but to some degree they’re still all versions of that classic bar-sided cot that our kids’ grandparents were put to bed in. Well, get ready for something very, very different.
Nursery newcomer and new Australian brand Ubabub have just unveiled the perfect cots for modern babies and their very modern parents. Designed in Melbourne, these stunning cots go on sale today (June 28) and have a contemporary aesthetic that we’re sure will wow you.
Parents Natasha and Daniel Dumais are the wonderduo behind Ubabub, creating the eye-catching cots themselves when they couldn’t find nursery furniture to suit their oh-so-modern tastes. Just take a look at what they came up with.
The Pod (pictured top and above) is a futuristic sleep space for baby that makes a definite statement. Made from natural timbers with a contrasting white base and silver legs, the cocoon-shaped cot has distinctive rounded edges and clear acrylic sides to make checking on baby a cinch. Star-shaped cutouts here add to the unique look of the Pod cot while providing extra airflow for sleeping infants.
The same acrylic walls feature in the aptly named Nifty Clear cot. My favourite, this one draws inspiration from mid-century design with its distinctive walnut timber finish and slanted legs. Just stunning.
All Ubabub cots have a high and low mattress position to accommodate both newborns and older babies. Optional conversion kits turn both cots into junior beds when babies become toddlers. How Nifty is that?
The Pod Cot costs $1899 and the Nifty Clear Cot is $1599 from Urban Baby with shipping Australia wide, otherwise if you are in Victoria stop by Olifant and see the range up close. There is also a matching Nifty change table for $649.
