On the shelf with Shawn Soh

tree1 On the shelf with Shawn Soh

You know what I hate? When you spend a small fortune on a piece of furniture such as, oh say, perhaps a baby’s book shelf, only to get it home and then see another shelf you much prefer weeks down the track.

This is exactly what happened when I saw Korean design artist Shawn Soh’s tree bookshelf. What an awesome idea! I’d never really thought about it before, but why couldn’t a bookshelf be some other shape beside the usual rectangular jobs you find left, right and centre. Imagine how sweet this would look in your child’s room with a vibrant bird wall decal placed strategically above it. You don’t even have to use it as a bookshelf. Why not use it as a visually arresting wall cabinet and place your beautiful objects on it for show?

The site it mostly in Korean so I’m still unsure how much it costs but if you’re interested in buying one, you could either email Shawn at shawnsoh@naver.com, or if all else fails, hit up Bunnings on the weekend. Good luck!

  1. This outrageously stylish and desirable bookshelf is completely unattainable! As the site is entirely in Korean, except for a few tantalising lines, I’m not going to be able to order this exquisite collectable any time soon.

    Does anyone have one?
Does anyone know of anyone who has one?

I want it, I want it… I want it sooooo bad (at risk of sounding like my toddler!)

Where I previously only had a tree shaped wall decal this has just reached heights of most desirable. . .
Staring longingly at the picture now…

  2. Has anyone tried contacting Shawn via email. I did but I have not had a response I would really love to get one of these to complete my daughters bedroom. Otherwise it will be boring white cubes as a bookshelf.

  4. got an email back from Shawn – its going to cost about A$2590 + p&p and she is only going to make about 35 (10 x USA; 15 x UK and 10 x Australia)for world wide distribution. Its made of powder coated metal and weighs 22.5kg so I imagine it will cost a lot in p&p from Korea.
