How organised are you? Do you have books and CDs arranged alphabetically? The Aakkoset bookshelf by Lincoln Kawiya might be just the thing to sort out the library or toys – how could you resist propping Teddy in the letter ‘T’ shelf?! At almost two metres tall, the bookshelf also makes a good room divide (shelves are accessible from the back and the front). alphabet bookcase 2 File that book under ‘B’ for book

The Aakkoset bookshelf is available in eight colours (including on trend violet and orange) and can be shipped to Australia by arrangement. You should know upfront that at 21,560 € (that’s approximately $29,600) this bookshelf would be a (very) serious investment piece! Purchase directly from Kawiya.

  1. I love it but the pricetag??? The guy only graduated from design in 2007! He’s not Coco Chanel.

  2. Not practical, not cheap, plenty of other cool alphabet inspired pieces out there.

  3. I agree with Lynn! I’ve seen way cooler bookshelves around for a 10th of the price. It looks SO impractical and messy looking. I like all my books kept in nice neat rows :)

(I’d rather have three of the cubby/beach houses that were on Babyology the other day for around $10K each!)

  4. I would have to put everything under B for Broke as that’s what I’d be if I bought this (or D for Divorced!). I do love it though :)

  5. That is the coolest thing ever. Maybe it’s made of solid gold…

  6. hmm….. love it, would totally buy it, if it were reasonably priced… I’m sure its a fair bit of work to make, and nicely finished… but yes, he’s not Coco Chanel at all! But we do love your work book shelf guy!!! I’d be interested to know what it is made from, perhaps that would justify the price… Maybe its filled with diamonds…?

  7. I love this as a concept.
Wouldn’t have the funds, but have to say in defense of the price – until these things are mass produced it is incredibly expensive to put together with a professional finish a furniture piece like this.
If you look in detail it’s sealed inside the letters, so some sort of form moulding there, probably pressed ply… anyway I won’t go on and dissect it but given the amount of time and energy and money it would take to make that is probably just what a custom item like that would need to cost to make it worthwhile!
Plus when people make graduate pieces like this you are asked to put a random price on them, and honestly, sometimes the creator loves them so much they actually Will price them out of reach, so they can keep. Possibly also knowing that unless there was a masive market for them they would not really be worth the time or effort of reproducing.
Love it. Uber-impractical for the space-cramped, but how awesome is it?!

  8. It’s amazing what you stumble upon when looking to research shelf prices.. And you would think that for the pricetag they could at least throw in free shipping, but the website looks like they sting you for that too!
