You might never look at laminate finishes in the same way again.

Italian furniture label Dear Kids gives a new perspective on how to use bold colour and in doing so, creates some space-saving pieces for modern, cleverly edited kids’ bedrooms.

I love the multi-coloured checkerboard storage units – the rainbow drawers (shown at top) are amazing and likewise shades of blue are used to great effect in the wall unit below, making a sophisticated boys’ room.

As well as multipurpose pieces (stairs that are drawers, fold-out beds and wardrobes under elevated beds), I like that many of the rooms shown at Dear Kids are for two children – the reality is that many children share a bedroom and it is great to see how separate spaces can be created without using the traditional bunk bed.

Dear Kids is not available in Australia (despite the Australian flag pillow used in the room below!) but that doesn’t stop you drawing inspiration from their inspired use of colour.

  9. This is just fabulously inspiring. However here’s a tip seeing as it’s not in Australia yet. Seen when visiting ikea recently – Check out http://www.IKEA.com/aa/STUVA (typed in exactly like that) for the stuva range. In pink, white, lime, blue or timber so you can mix and match. The above range has given me ideas! Thanks, Cindy

  10. Beautiful..loving the drawer steps on the bunk bed too. The beds look tiny though – wonder how long they would last!
