Bauhaus Cradle - a cradle like no other
Written by Suzanne Catchpole

True classics never age! Whilst bearing the signature colours and
shapes of Wassily Kandinski of Bauhaus fame, this cradle,
designed by Peter Keler in 1922 would look stunning in a nursery in
2008. The surprising design evokes as much interest as in the
year it was released with its oval and circular ends resulting in the
perfect rocking motion.
Boldly coloured in blue, yellow, red and white with laquered wicker
on the sides for ventilation, the cradle was created as a student
exercise. I'd imagine Keler got top marks for this inspired design. I
wonder if he ever imagined they'd be selling for US$3150,
86 years later? Manufactured in Germany and with a choice of fabric
colours, you can be almost guaranteed you'll be the only one on your
block
with this striking cradle.
