There’s no denying that establishing breastfeeding can take its toll on your breasts and those of us who have gone down that road all have a story to tell.
We’ve been looking into natural, more alternative ways of soothing sore, cracked nipples with the amazing Bebe Nacre Shells post and now Babyologist Rebekah has sent us this gem of a product. Silverette Cups offer immediate nipple protection, claiming to heal cracks within twenty-four to forty-eight hours.
They can be used as a preventative measure to avoid soreness and cracks occurring in the first place and need no creams or potions in order to be effective. Drawing on the ancient knowledge of silver’s antiseptic qualities, the cups are worn inside the bra when not feeding, providing hygienic care to the nipples and areolas. A more thorough, scientific explanation can found on the Silverette website.
Silverette Nursing Cups can be ordered for about $50 from Family Nation, which ships internationally.

Hi Gelsie, It’s Emilia from Family Nation (the shop quoted in the article). I just saw this article by chance and I am thrilled as I fully believe in Silverette Nursing Cups (we’ll update the site soon with testimonials of women that have found them life changing!). We do ship to Australia! On the site you will find an option to ship via international courier, which delivers in one week and costs 29,90 Euros (flat rate for any order volume). We would also be happy to ship by registered post, which would cost 12,00 Euros (if you are ordering just this item), but it would take longer to get there. If registered post suits you better, simply email me at: emilia@family-nation.com
Best regards,
Emilia

I’d love to know if these actually work. I had the worse time breastfeeding and couldn’t sustain it with constant mastitis bleeding and then loss of milk. With baby number 2 due soon I’m pretty apprehensive but won’t be giving up.
To Sarah Lowe, my husband’s cousin lives in Geneva and was given these in hospital when she had her second bub there. She absolutely raved about them and gave them to her sister who suffered from pretty bad mastitis and she too loved them. I am about to borrow them for bub number 2 due soon. Worth a try I say as I used lanolin with bub number 1 and breast pads as well as putting milk and letting them air dry but there is only so much air drying you can do as you can’t walk around all day with your boobs out. I really think breast pads rub the skîn even with lanolin on them. Anyway I am going to use them if it makes breast feeding more comfortable.
I’m still using silverette, which I bought at Family Nation and I’m having the best breastfeeding experience ever. I didn’t meet any of the most common problems, such as mastitis. It’s a maternity gadget that I highly recommend!!!
I can highly recommend these, I gave birth 27/3/13 so my lo is 9 days old and I am having the best breastfeeding experience all helped by silverettes! My first baby breastfed but by this point I was so sore with cracked, bleeding nipples, it was agony. This time round with silverettes it’s a totally different experience! I highly recommend!
Well after 48hrs of feeding, my nipples have cracked and split. I have just placed an order and can’t wait for them to arrive.
The order process was easy, however unable to order using an iPad. I will update the page when the product arrives and has been used.
Ouch Sarah! I hope they arrive quickly for you! ~ LK
I’ve been using these for 48 hrs and I can’t recommend them enough! My nipples were more then cracked, they are now healing nicely, I haven’t had to rest them or express. The express post from Italy only took 7 days.
Unless you are somewhere where you can wash your nipples you can’t really wear them while out and you do need to wear breast pads over the top as the cups are quite small and fill up very quickly.
Overall these do everything they claim!
