In our household we're not quite at the knife and fork stage (more the throw-a-spoon-at-mum stage!) but we love this puzzle dinner tray available from Dutch design company Royal VKB.

It's got a functional, retro kind of feel to it and aims to make eating fun for children. Made of melamine, it comes with a large spoon, knife, fork, small spoon, cup, plate and tray with non-slip feet.

You can order the dinner tray for US$79.50 from Dedece+

Milk Bar

Now this is a genius invention. Milkscreen is a device which checks the levels of alcohol in breast milk so you can be sure your bub isn't getting any chardonnay with that evening (or, daytime) feed. All you have to do is put some milk on the reactive pad and hey presto, two minutes later it will come up with a positive or negative reading.

So clever and easy we can't believe no one came up with this idea sooner. Make ours a large box.

Available in Australia from FreshMums for $24.95 plus shipping for four test strips.

The original banana guard (available from www.protectyourbanana.com.au) is an old favourite to keep fruit from bruising, but inflatable fruit carriers take the idea a bit further. With these handy items you can clip fruit to strollers or bags and you've got an on-the-run toy which may keep your little one quiet for a few minutes.

Foogo by Thermos - Stays Cooler and Fresher

Recently my little one had a nasty stomach flu so we're trying to pay more attention to what goes into her mouth. Did you know that bacteria in a child’s sippy cup can double in as little as 10 minutes while at room temperature? This new, hip-looking sippy cup and straw bottle from Foogo by Thermos, comes in handy to protect your little ones. Its double wall vacuum insulation will keep beverages fresher, safer and healthier longer while the unbreakable stainless steel interior and exterior keep them light, compact yet kid-proof.

The sippy cup, which is available with or without handles, has a soft spout to make sipping comfortable. The kid-proof design offers an unbreakable stainless steel interior and exterior that can withstand daily wear and tear.

The hydration bottle keeps drinks fresh and cold for up to 12 hours. The exterior, however, stays condensation free. It also comes with a hygienic push-button lid with pop-up straw and a non-slip scratch resistant base.

Available at Thermos in the USA and soon to come to Thermos in Australia. Prices start at US$15.
