Parents have recently been alerted to the fact that most baby bottles are made from plastics that contain potentially harmful toxins. Although I breastfeed, I have always kept bottles handy for those times when I've had to pump, for the odd bottle of formula, and for cow's milk later on. I might reconsider regular plastic bottles now and invest in some toxin-free ones from Green To Grow.

These bottles look traditional enough, but what you can't see is the lack of Bisphenol-A, 'a neurological, developmental, and reproductive toxicant' found in polycarbonate plastics - the very same plastic used to make millions of baby bottles. The Green To Grow website has a wonderful collection of resources for you to read, so you can educate yourself about plastics and the preparation of your children's food and beverages.

So what are these super bottles made from? PES plastic, which stands for Polyethersulfone, a polymer that isn't porous or reactive and is more durable than other hard plastics. It can withstand changes in temperature, remaining stable over many uses, including hundreds of stints in the dishwasher and steriliser.

Our children deserve our best efforts to keep them safe from harmful toxins, and setting aside my panic for a moment, I'm grateful for this new information about plastics.

Mini eco have just released metric Green To Grow bottles in Australia, and they're available in 120ml and 240ml wide necks, for $15.95 and $19.95 respectively. I'm just loving this site. Finally eco-friendly goods can go hand in hand with style!

Just over a year ago we found out about these really cool sippy cups and hydration bottles by Thermos. They are now available in Australia through Urban Baby. Thanks Melissa for passing this info onto us.

This new, hip-looking sippy cup and straw bottle from Foogo by Thermos, comes in handy to protect your little ones. Its double wall vacuum insulation will keep beverages fresher, safer and healthier longer while the unbreakable stainless steel interior and exterior keep them light, compact yet kid-proof.

The sippy cup, which is available with or without handles, has a soft spout to make sipping comfortable. The kid-proof design offers an unbreakable stainless steel interior and exterior that can withstand daily wear and tear.

The hydration bottle keeps drinks fresh and cold for up to 12 hours. The exterior, however, stays condensation free. It also comes with a hygienic push-button lid with pop-up straw and a non-slip scratch resistant base.

Available at Urban Baby with prices starting from $24.95.

Breast feeding is a gift for both mother and baby.  Sometimes, it is necessary to bottle feed. And if you do need to bottle feed, the Adiri Natural Nurser Ultimate Bottle could be a perfect solution.

When feeding, your breasts don’t feel like hard plastic, so why should the bottle? With this in mind the creators of the Adiri Natural Nurser Ultimate Bottle designed and made a bottle which is 100% polycarbonate-free and bisphenol-A free.  When filled with warm milk, this bottle feels warm and supple against the child’s cheek, closely mimicking the feel of your breast.

Its patented nipple design helps minimise nipple confusion whilst encouraging a similar feeding style to breastfeeding; making it a good bottle option for those who are combining breast and bottle feeding.

The Adiri Natural Nurser is available in three stages each with different flow rates – slow for newborns, medium for 3-6 months old babies and fast for babies older than 6 months.  Each bottle holds 240ml of fluid and is able to be boiled, sterilised in a basic sterlisier and is also dishwasher safe.

Each bottle is $19.95 and is available in Australia through EcoChild.

Update - Boon Fine Dining in Australia

If you’re a regular babyology reader, you’ll know we are fans already of the innovative and funky designs that Boon produce – we recently featured their Flair highchairs.  Well, you can start drooling all over again because Boon released their new line of feeding products in October and they have just arrived in Asutralia.

One of my favourites in the range is the Catch Bowl with the built-in food catcher that extends towards your child.  This helps funnel food back into the bowl. The suction cup on the bottom of the bowl also helps stability of the bowl to avoid spills. This morning's breakfast was a treat to watch as my toddler ate her Weetbix and yoghurt and I didn't have to clean down her entire torso once she was finished. She did think the bowl resembled a hat and put it on her head once I unsuctioned it from the high chair but that's another issue altogether.

Like nothing you have seen before, take a look at the food dispensing spoon, Squirt.  Not only does it look great, but an innovation in design, especially useful when you are out and about with your baby.  No more packing up food, spoon and bowl separately – it’s literally all in one with the food packed into the handle and dispensed directly onto the spoon itself.  I tried using it to feed my 6 month old, which was great as it gave me a spare hand to hold down little arms that tend to go everywhere at that age.

Other items in this new range are the Snack Ball, Fluid, Benders, ModWare & Groovy.

Everything matches in the range so the Groovy and the ModWear would look great next to each other, or the Catch Bowl and Benders are a perfect match... Okay, it’s getting obvious I would love to have the whole range, it’s just so beautifully designed!

The range is very affordable with the RRP on each item being Squirt ($14.99), Fluid ($14.99), Benders ($9.99), Catch Bowl ($14.99), Snack Ball ($14.99), ModWare ($9.99) and Groovy Plate($24.99).

The good news is the Boon range is going to be available at Target stores so look for the first delivery soon. The range will also be available in specialty baby stores nationwide.  Contact Playgro for stockists.

For nutrition and taste innovation in baby food, look to Ella's Kitchen. Providing organic goodness for the most precious people in your lives, these snaffle-able meals contain nothing but pure, unadulterated food. No water, no thickeners, no additives, just delicious blends of fruits and vegetables in transportable and resealable pouches with no need for cutlery, messy bowls or clogged up spoons.  Just squeeze into baby's mouth.

There are three kinds of fruit smoothies as well as vegetable-fruit blends like "carrot, apple and parsnip" and "sweet potato, pumpkin, apples and blueberries". Pretty wild!  My youngest is coming up to 6 months of age in April, so I've started stocking up on these already.  With a shelf life of 1 year, they'll last the distance should one get lost at the back of the pantry.

The fruit ones can also be used in baking, so they're great for those emergencies when there's no fruit in the fridge. Delicious fruit muffins are made at least once a week in our house, with my toddler participating every step of the way. He's going to love squeezing the pouch and no doubt sampling its contents!

The company has a child-centered philosophy which espouses passing on good eating habits to children as part of a sound value system. With growing obesity and disease rates among the young, this is well worth acting on in our own homes. Sometimes, with the daily stresses of family life, food is the first thing to suffer. Parents need to be able to fall back on a convenience product that isn't going to compromise the health of their children, or indeed the tastebuds you've spent months cultivating with lovely meals.

Get these yummy scrummy, super healthy organic delights for your baby for $3.50-$4.50, from Ecochild.
