There’s a great deal of buzz around this beautiful first collection from Australian label Udder – and with good reason. 

It’s rare that a new children’s label stops me in my tracks, but Udder did just that. It’s an understated, well-thought-out first collection by designer Fliss Dodd. The inspiration for the Spring Summer 2012-13 collection is Make Believe. Each piece of clothing in the collection fits the bill as wearable, beautiful and above all, comfortable.

The collection is a feast for the eyes, with muted colours punctuated with bold yellows, geometric shapes and unexpected cuts for boys and girls. For example, I am totally enamoured by the boys’ Arti Pant (above). I find pants for my boys are either too short or too long at the moment – so these rather special duds would eliminate the wayward pant cuff problem. They’re $48 and look so comfortable, made with a mixture of cotton poplin and jersey. Bloomers for boys – who would have thought?

The Tin Tin Pant ($45) is another take on comfortable boys’ pants, just made for (mis)adventure.

 

Fitting in perfectly with the style brief of Make-Believe, the Cross Singlet ($35) is inspired by the game of noughts and crosses, and playing at pirates.

 

The girls’ collection is equally unique. The Feather Tee ($38) is flowing, with a fashion forward batwing.

The Rosa Top is a stunning example of the quality fabrics used in this collection. Made from a cotton-silk blend, it’s $52.

The Jump Suit is sweet, and described as perfect for performing cartwheels ($56). Udder’s clothing goes from size one up to size eight. Shipping is free on all Australian orders, and for international orders over $100.
