When I look back at photos of me as a little girl, I distinctly remember how I felt about each outfit. There was the red smocked sundress which was so light in the heat of high summer, the itchy, high-necked navy dress my mother insisted I wear for parties, and my beloved faded denim bell bottoms (yes I was a true seventies kid!). My daughters already have cherished items that come out of the wardrobe time and time again, so I love it when I come across clothes I just know will become firm favourites and maybe stick in their memories to boot.

Mini Shatsu is a great range of funky clothing that really stands out from the crowd. Founded in California twenty years ago, Mini Shatsu has grown from a small selection of hand-made t-shirts (Shatsu means shirt in Japanese so the name literally means mini shirt), to a collection of tees, dresses, jeans and hoodies.

Each item has an original look and can still claim to be pretty unique, with less than one thousand shirts produced for each design. I love the quirky additions to each piece, like the sunnies graphic on the hoods or the little dog poking out of a pocket. There’s definitely a retro feel going on, which is probably why I like them so much – an assured addition to our family fashion history!
